A STATIC “show and shine” display of American cars will be open to the public at Exhibition Park on Sunday May 29, to raise funds for Snowy Hydro SouthCare rescue helicopter – and, subject to missions, the helicopter will fly in and be open for inspection on the day, too, according to Chris Smith, organiser and president of the American Car Club of Australia.
“There’ll be all sorts of makes, models and ages of US cars on display,” he says. “The BMW club and the GT Ford club will be there, among others, and there’ll be new, old, vintage cars – a great variety.
“And there’s entertainment for the kids, trade displays, food vendors, just a great day out.
“The chopper will be flying in at around 11am and staying til 1pm, as long as it’s available, and people will be able to chat to the crew and go inside.”
The Auto Spectacular will be hosted by the American Car Club of Australia, with commentary by Gordon “Pinky” Fellows, says Chris, and every cent raised will go to the SouthCare helicopter.
The helicopter is a critical tool for the medical care of people in the ACT and south-eastern NSW, and has completed more than 4500 missions, says Chris – “you never know when you may need to depend on this service, it’s the fast medical help they provide that saves so many lives.
“SouthCare do a wonderful job. My own family has depended on them several times, so helping this charity is very personal for me.”
Kate van Haalen, media and communications at Snowy Hydro SouthCare, says the organisation is extremely appreciative, and that no event is too big or too small to help them in their fundraising efforts.
“It’s great that people in the community are giving back to the Snowy Hydro SouthCare helicopter team, who continue to save lives,” she says.
Auto Spectacular entrants can arrive at EPIC, on Flemington Road, Mitchell, from 8am, says Chris, with a cost of $10 per car entrant.
Members of the public are welcome from 10am-2.30pm with a gold coin donation.
