All for the love of lyrics

JOHN Shortis and Moya Simpson are the obvious stars of  “Waxing Lyrical”, coming up at The Q, but they are getting by with more than a little help from their friends.

In a show directed by Carissa Campbell and performed by Shortis, Simpson, Peter J Casey, Ian Blake, Jon Jones and Dave O’Neill, they take a walk through the world of wordsmiths – lyricists, that is.

It’s the very same team that brought us the prizewinning “Tin Pan Aussie”, and focuses some of our most popular songs and songwriters.

Shortis plans to wax lyrical about his own words, while Casey gets a go at word-smithing, too.

Johnny Mercer, Cole Porter, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Eric Bogle, Joni Mitchell, and Paul Kelly — you get the idea. As they are saying, “it’s more Gilbert than Sullivan, more Hart than Rodgers and more Ira Gershwin than George”.

“Waxing Lyrical” at The Q – Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, 253 Crawford Street, Queanbeyan, December 2-4. Bookings to 6285 6290.
