THE innovative webcam project allowing families to view their babies in the Canberra Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) has won an Australian Institute of Project Management (ACT) award.
The NICUCAM resource streams video images of infants to parents and families, giving them the opportunity to see view when they cannot physically be at the hospital. The can see their babies over a secure internet connection at any time of the day.
After 18 months, feedback shows that 98 per cent of parents have found that the system reduced the stress surrounding their baby’s admission in the NICU. More than 100 families have used the system, and it has allowed friends and family a “virtual visit” from 30 countries.
The NICUCAM project will now represent the ACT in the Organisational Change Management category at the national Australian Institute of Project Management and International Project Management Association Awards.
