Beauty in the eye of the dancers

TUGGERANONG Arts Centre’s Fresh Funk dance production is always one of the most popular acts in town.

Its newest end-of-semester Blockbuster, “Beastly Beauty”, will feature the full cast of 300 young dancers on stage at the Erindale Theatre from December 16 -17.

Yes you guessed it, “Beastly Beauty” is a contemporary take on “Beauty and the Beast”, exploring the way in which our obsession with beauty has, in reality, become something quite ugly, with plastic surgery, botox, Photoshop, and unrealistic ideals have created a warped interpretation of what is beautiful.

This is an unusual show for Fresh Funk, looking as it does at issues of body image, self-acceptance, and inner beauty, within the context of this age-old tale.

Fresh Funk, specialists in urban choreography, is one of the premiere hip-hop programs in the ACT, using big-name choreographers from Australia and LA, and competing in crew competitions at a national and international level.

You can expect energy and skill from the young dancers, as well as an entertaining soundtrack of R’n’B and hip-hop music.

“Beastly Beauty” should get you thinking about what you consider to be beautiful.

“Beastly Beauty,” at Erindale Theatre, December 16, 8pm and December 17, 5pm and 8pm, bookings to 6293 1443.
