Boxers vie for ACT titles

CANBERRA boxers will vie for a chance of Olympic pre-selection at the ACT Boxing Titles on Saturday.

The title winner will take the number one spot on the ACT team for the 2012 Australian Championships, the first step towards 2012 London Olympics.

Saturday’s bouts will include: Stockade’s Nathan Carter against Winnunga’s Jorge Kapeen in the 69kg division, Winnunga’s Ayden Tait versus Stockade’s Adrian Andrews in the 81kg men’s title and Stockade’s David Toussaint against national champion and Victorian Rob Jankowski in the 75kg division.

In the 64kg men’s divison, PCYC’s James McPherson will take on SA’s Shaun Schaaf.

In the non-Olympic categories, Alex Cooper will face SA’s Ryan Goodes in the junior male division and Luke Hart from Flames Fitness will vie for the 69kg youth title against Liam McLucas from Masters Boxing.

In the women’s division, Fleur Logan of Flames Fitness will face SA’s Ushi Artym.

Tom Babic from Masters Boxing faces Simon Ganter of Flames Fitness, fresh from winning the 81kg silver medal at the Masters Games in Adelaide.

ACT Boxing Titles at the Woden Tradies Club, Phillip from 6pm on Saturday November 5.

Entry is $20 for adults; $10 for seniors, pensioners, students and children over 10 years; and family tickets $40 (two adults and two children).
