CAPO awards open

AT a  glittering cocktail party  in Kingston’s Artespresso last night, the patron of the 28-year-old Capital Arts Patrons’ Organisation, (CAPO) Michael Bryce,  announced that applications for the many CAPO  awards and fellowships are now open.

While “CityNews” reminds readers annually about some of the more extreme items auctioned in the past, in this unique business-arts collaboration (a night out with Bronwyn Bishop and a grand piano come to mind), this year’s list of awards is truly impressive.

These include the CAPO Fellowship, the Singapore Airlines Award, the Rosalie Gascoigne Memorial Award, the National Press Club Award, the capital insurance Brokers Award, Eckersley’s Material Award, Sage Legal Services Award, DMV Consulting Award and Workplace Research Associates Award.

But the greatest coup is the continuation of the Reading Room CAPO London Exhibition Award, won last year by artist  Antonia Aitken. That award gives an emerging artist the chance to exhibit for six weeks in a gallery space at the reading room in Soho, London (www.readingroom.com/gallery/)

The award winners will be announced at CAPO’s fund-raising art auction and party on November 26 in the National Archives.

For information on how to apply and tickets to the function, visit www.capo.org.au or phone Marilyn Gray at  6249 7860. Applications close on October 21.
