Charity’s million meals

OZHARVEST will today deliver its one millionth meal to St John’s Care in Reid.

The achievement will be awarded with a $40,000 cheque from Independent Property Group to purchase a third van for the service.

Since starting in 2008, OzHarvest  has transported food to more than 60 charities across the Canberra region and has rescued 300,000kg of food from being dumped as landfill.

“The food OzHarvest rescues is top quality,” OzHarvest director David Burnet said.

“Eggs, fruit and veg, meat, prepared meals, milk. There are even some flowers for the women’s refuges.”

OzHarvest  Canberra is managed in the ACT by Communities@Work and currently does not receive ACT or Federal Government assistance. The services is operated by 31 volunteers.
