Cops to bag Cup lunchers

POLICE will be out in full force tomorrow to tackle Canberra’s Melbourne Cup celebrations.

Police will target Thoroughbred Park , Civic and other licensed venues as revellers continue their celebrations. Targeted and random breath tests will also be conducted across Canberra.

Last year, police praised Canberrans on their good behaviour and hope the good behaviour continues this year.

“We are not the anti-fun police,” operational commander sergeant Steve Hogarth said.

“We want the Canberra public to go out and have a great day on Melbourne Cup. All we ask is that if you drink, then drink responsibly, plan ahead, organise a lift home and be aware of how your behaviour may impact on others.

“The majority of revellers are well behaved, it is the small minority who tend to ruin it for others.”

An ACTION bus service will run from Thoroughbred Park to Civic between 4 and 7 pm.
