Crafty crowds

HUNDREDS of craft enthusiasts piled into Exhibition Park this morning to be some of the first inside the Canberra Craft and Quilt Fair.

The four-day event opened today and features exclusive craft displays and exhibitions by artisans from around the country.

One of the featured artists of this year’s fair is Melbourne-based, Teresa Dair from “Dairing”, who will hold daily arm knitting demonstrations.

Teresa says arm knitting, also known as body knitting, has “been around a really long time” but her style of arm knitting is different due to the yarns she uses and how she uses them.

Her “Dairing” stall, will include other examples of her knitted designs, made of a range of materials including elastic, leather and silk and stainless steel yarn.

This is the second year Teresa is in Canberra for the Craft and Quilt Fair.

“People can pick up a whole lot of new ideas,” she said. “There are a lot of really talented people here and it’s about getting them all together in one group.

“It’s a really good way to share ideas.”

Craft and Quilt Fair, open 10am to 4.30pm from today to Sunday August 14. For more details, including entry costs visit www.craftfair.com.au
