CSO dances with the stars

Aric Yegudkin with Masha Belash

CANBERRA Symphony Orchestra’s annual “Matinee Magic” will soon hit the capacious stage of Llewellyn Hall in a more showbiz-style version than usual.

The popular afternoon of dance and music will feature international champions from Dance Dance Dance, seen on TV shows such as “Dancing with the Stars” and “So You Think You Can Dance”.

This year’s theme will be “Ballroom Blitz”, and the stars of the show – including Luda Kroitor with Csaba Szirmai and Aric Yegudkin with Masha Belash – will join the CSO by performing classics from the world of ballroom dance.

There will be Strauss’ “Blue Danube”, and a steamy tango set to music from “Carmen”.

According to the orchestra’s CEO Henry Laska, the idea is to appeal to families and fans of all ages.

“This event is a great introduction for those who might not attend our regular symphonic performances,” he said.

“In addition, because it’s a matinee performance, held in the early afternoon,
it’s ideal for parents who might like to bring the kids along after their Saturday morning sport, or for older Canberrans who are looking for an afternoon outing.”

Laska said audiences could act a lot of colour movement and “truly amazing costumes”.

And of course there’ll be fabulous professionally performed music by Canberra’s professional symphony orchestra.

“Matinee Magic”, 2pm on Saturday, November 19. Bookings to 1300 795 012 or www.ticketek.com.au and at the door.
