Cycling for a smile

The Cycle for SMILE team have ridden across Australia to raise more than $1.1m for children living with rare diseases.

A GROUP of cyclists who are riding around Australia to raise funds for children living with rare diseases will arrive in Canberra today.

Cycle for SMILE team left Sydney on June 30, and have already raised more than $1.1 million but hope to exceed that by the end of their round trip. In total the cyclists will have covered 15,700 kilometres over 80 days – five times the distance of the Tour De France.

In Canberra today, the cyclists will be at Village Park, Casey, for lunch.

The SMILE (Supporting Medical Innovation for Life Enhancement) Foundation provides financial assistance to families whose children suffer from rare diseases as well as funding into medical research. In Australia today there are more than  9000 rare diseases affecting 1.2 million Australians including 400,000 children.
