Davis to join GWS?

Defender Phil Davis could be joining the GWS Giants next year.

THERE’S a big chance Adelaide Crows defender Phil Davis will join the Greater Western Sydney Giants in 2012.

GWS today confirmed they have been in discussions with Davis’ management throughout the year.

“We discussed an opportunity with Phil’s management during the year however, that is all we are able to confirm at this stage of the season,” GWS chief executive Dale Holmes said.

“Under the AFL rules regarding uncontracted players, we are not in a position to officially agree to terms or come to any arrangement, agreement or understanding with Phil and his management team until after the conclusion of the season. In accordance with the AFL rules we will recommence those discussions at the end of the season with the hope of reaching a successful outcome.

“We have a very clear list development plan and have a commitment to our members, supporters and the club as a whole  to secure the best talent that is available.

“Phil is an exciting young player with a big future ahead of him. We are delighted that he has indicated his interest in joining the GIANTS and believe he would be a very good fit for this club as we build a strong team for the future.”

Davis began his career with Adelaide when he was the 10th pick in the 2008 draft and has proven to be a key defender in the Adelaide backline.
