Rodney Usback with “Behind the Mask”

THIS year’s Capital Chemist Art Award at Tuggeranong Arts Centre has gone to retired artist Rodney Usback for his digital work, “Behind the Mask”, the first in that medium to win the award.

The award was presented to Usback by Peter Holder from Capital Chemist, at a gathering hosted by TAC director Domenic Mico on Thursday November 3 at the centre.

Retiring curator Suzie Edwards, who leaves next week after 12 years running the gallery,  explained that this year they had attracted a higher standard of entries by making it open to all media and sizes.

Among the strong entries submitted were works by Barbara Van Der Linden, Carmel McCrow, Maryann Mussared, Deborah Perrow, Guy Tessier and Gosia Orzechowska.
