AN unlicensed drink driver left a trail of destruction this morning in Wanniassa.
The 24-year-old man, of no fixed address, crashed a white Holden Commodore station wagon into a number of street fixtures on McBryde Crescent.
Police were called to the scene at about 1am and after finding a fresh tyre burnout mark along the street found the suspected car parked diagonally across the entrance of a carpark near Kimberley Gardens.
The driver was still in the car, which was severely damaged with a shattered rear passenger window, damaged external panelling and both rear and driver’s side tyres off their rims.
Police will allege that the driver of the Commodore damaged street guttering, a light pole and a light fitting. Police said a fixed garbage bin had been struck, torn from its concrete footing and flung 15 metres down the street.
Police said the defendant was taken to Tuggeranong Police Station and following a blood alcohol test he recorded a reading of 0.228.
He will be released on watch house bail and will face the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date, charged with a series of traffic offences including drink-driving.
