E-health debut for Calvary

CALVARY Health Care ACT has been confirmed as one of nine sites that will implement the Federal Government’s personally controlled electronic health records program.

The health record program will combine key health information from a number of different systems to one single view –  creating a more accessible and comprehensive view of a patient’s health records.

Calvary Health Care ACT chief executive officer Ray Dennis was delighted their project was selected from the initial applicants.

“Our project will focus on the creation of an electronic health record for palliative and aged-care patients,” he said. “This cohort of patients offers the geographical diversity, the frequency of care episodes, and the multidisciplinary services and care provision that will ensure the Calvary-led project will produce a robust and versatile personally controlled record electronic health that can be applied to a broader range of acute care patients in a variety of locations.

“For Calvary Health Care ACT it is a privilege to be actively involved in the progress of e-health initiatives.

“In the future it is vital that technology be used to improve patient care, and our project has the potential to give clinicians and patients back valuable time that is currently ‘unproductively’ spent pursuing information from various sources needed by clinicians to establish an individual care plan for patients.

“And it is also great news for the Canberra and surrounding areas that our communities have been chosen to develop an innovation that will ultimately contribute to nationwide health services enhancements.”
