Firebugs run amok

NUMEROUS fires were lit across Woden and Tuggeranong yesterday evening.

The fires were lit between 5.30pm and midnight, with reports of fires to playground equipment  in Gordon, trees at the Tuggeranong Skate Park, wheelie bins in Kambah, Weston and Rivett, a car in Weston and two electrical service pillars in Bonython and Banks.

Police said one of the services pillars damaged, in Banks, caused about 30 homes to lose power and will cost $5000 to repair.

Police caught three teenagers at around 12.25am in a white Holden Commodore, which was believed to be seen near one of the fires.

A 17-year-old and two 18-year-old males were arrested, but were later released. Police seized clothing and other items for forensic examination. Investigations are continuing.
