THE international children’s television show “Christmas in LazyTown Live!” is coming to town in a 55-minute stage version.
Created by Icelandic writer and producer Magnus Scheving, this stage interpretation of the TV show, seen on ABC2 and around the world, is directed by Melbourne’s Garry Ginnivan.
Featuring an all-Australian cast performing acrobatics and comedy, it has a healthy life message for boys and girls under 10 years of age. Like their adult counterparts who enjoy good melodrama, the kids will be invited to cheer the hero and boo the villain in the certain knowledge that everything will turn out well.
If the images look like TV, they’re intended to. Stephanie, a buoyant eight-year-old with lolly-pink hair, is staying with her uncle, Mayor Meanswell in Lazytown, which is (as the name suggests) the laziest town in the universe.
It’s not the Grinch who almost steals Christmas this time, but the world’s laziest villain Robbie Rotten. Get the message? Stephanie and her gang of eccentric 21st-century friends Stingy, Pixel, Trixie and Ziggy are mentored by Sportacus, the terrifyingly super-fit superhero. This is not a show for the sedentary.
In Britain, “LazyTown” sold 450,000 seats, which is pretty good for a show with such a clean-living message – get out there, play, move, dance, sing, make new choices and feel really good about yourself.
