“CHRISTMAS Remix” will see hip-hop, breakdance, contemporary, jazz and swing routines by dance school Kulture Break and Christmas tunes remixed by DJ and rapper Kg performed every weekday lunchtime across the city.

It is an initiative of Canberra CBD Ltd and CEO Stephen Gregory said the idea was to create an inviting Christmas ambiance in the city for all people to enjoy.

“We were looking at possible options for a program in line with Canberra CBD Ltd,” he said.

“We thought, what could we bring to the city that can be seen across a wide distance, but wasn’t lost amongst the hustle and bustle of every day.

“A DJ and dance is something that is definitely different.

“It’s entertainment with a youth focus, but aimed at all age groups. People can stop and say: ‘Oh, wow’.”

According to event organiser Jennifer Salkeld, dance had been popular in past “Groovin’ in the City” programs.

“In other public performances, dance has always captured people’s attention,” she said.

“People love seeing young people, vibrant and expressing themselves.”

Music will be provided by former Canberran and now Sydney-based DJ Kg, who said he wants people to enjoy the Christmas vibe through their live performance.

DJ Kg will remix traditional and contemporary Christmas songs from fixed locations including Hobart Place, Lonsdale Street, City Walk West, Ainslie Avenue and City Walk East.

Dancers will perform where music is amplified, with some “flash” performances taking place in random locations.

But Mr Gregory wants to remind traditionalists, there will also be appearances from a choir singing Christmas carols across the CBD.
