Get set to swelter

Canberra is set to swelter this weekend.

CANBERRA is set to swelter this weekend according to The Weather Channel.

Many parts of south-eastern Australia are expected to experience the hottest weather since early autumn.

“Canberra residents will swelter in the hottest weather since last summer for the capital with a likely 30?C,” says Tom Saunders, Senior Meteorologist at The Weather Channel.

“All the mainland capitals should hit at least 30?C sometime over the weekend. Sydney should hit 30?C on Sunday, but western suburbs will climb to around 33?C or 34?C.

“Melbourne will reach 32?C on Sunday, 10 degrees above average and the city’s hottest day since March. Adelaide’s hottest day should be Saturday hitting 33?C, eight degrees above average.”

Saunders says it will be mostly dry over the weekend however a late storm may bring brief afternoon relief to Canberra on Sunday.

“The warm weekend is the result of a hot, northerly airstream from the nation’s interior but temperatures will be a long way off spring records,” he said.

“A northerly in late spring is capable of generating maximums over 40?C but widespread cloud cover and rain this week has cooled down the interior, our nation’s heat engine.”
