Hargreaves’ comment irks Libs

FORMER Minister John Hargreaves appears to be in strife again after the Liberals say they caught him making offensive and sexist comments towards MLA Vicki Dunne.

The incident happened at the Assembly sitting late Thursday night when Mr Hargreaves was overhead commenting to the Chief Minister Katy Gallagher and Deputy Chief Minister Andrew Barr.

The Chief Minister addressed the issue, believed to be about Ms Dunne’s body shape, in the Assembly this morning noting a letter of apology she sent to Opposition Leader Zed Seselja.

However, the Liberal Party says an apology is not enough.

“This morning I received an unsatisfactory response from Katy Gallagher which apologises ‘for any offence taken’ rather than the disgraceful comments themselves,” Opposition Leader Zed Seselja said.

“This sort of behaviour is reprehensive and has no place in the Assembly or the public. No female worker should be subject to offensive comments about their bodies; it is completely unacceptable and warrants condemnation from all sides of politics.

“Katy Gallagher needs to take immediate action on these reprehensible comments. She needs to say whether she condones this sort of behaviour from one of her senior Labor colleagues and must say whether she will act and remove Mr Hargreaves from his position of Government Whip.”
