Health pact makes progress

THE first steps in building a regional health network were made at meeting in Sydney today between NSW Minister for Health Jillian Skinner and Chief Minister Katy Gallagher.

The meeting, which also included NSW Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Health Melinda Pavey and Monaro MP John Barilaro, was held to discuss plans for forming a cross-border health region to improve services for people in Canberra, Queanbeyan and surrounding areas.

“Today’s highly successful meeting has paved the first steps in building a regional health network which will provide the best possible health services to the people of the ACT and south eastern NSW,” Minister Skinner said.

All Ministers agreed that agencies would be given three months to provide options on how NSW and the ACT could collaborate to ensure patients have access to timely, quality treatment best suited to their condition, no matter which side of the border they lived on.
