Drug ‘grow house’ busted

POLICE have described the hydroponic cannabis set-up found at a Macgregor house yesterday as “a sophisticated ‘grow house’”.

Detectives searched a property in Macfarlane Burnett Avenue, and found an elaborate cannibis nursery under the house.

Detective Sergeant Bob Wynn said the backgrounds of the detectives played a large role in uncovering the sophisticated set up.

“Originally, the team thought the cupboard backed on to a built-in wardrobe,” Det Sgt Wynn said. “However, upon closer inspection two team members, who had backgrounds in construction, realised this could not be the case and removed the cupboard.”

Police said to access the nursery they had to dismantle a cupboard where they found a trap door with a ladder leading to the underground set up.

The house had been highly modified with a customised electrical system, with the meter box bypassed and a large number of transformers installed to power the growing lamps and fans inside the premises.

The house was also equipped with a customised irrigation system.

Police said no people were found inside the house however, they seized a number of items as evidence and investigations are ongoing.
