Malaysian Solution sunk

THE High Court has ruled against asylum seekers being sent to Malaysia under the Federal Government’s Malaysian Solution deal.

The court also decided the Government cannot remove unaccompanied asylum seekers under 18 years of age without the Minister for Immigration’s written consent.

The Australian Lawyers Alliance welcomed the decision, describing it as a victory for the human rights of asylum seekers and should lead to the ALP and Coalition ending their “cruel commitment to offshore processing of vulnerable people”.
