More trees for the ACT

By Rafiqa Fattah

THE ACT government have deemed this year’s spring conditions ideal enough to plant approximately 1000 trees in Canberra’s streets and parks.

In addition to the 274 trees planted this winter (replacing trees that had died, were removed or vandalised), a further 660 tree sites have been readied for planting on major arterial roads, open spaces and residential areas.

The 39 different species of trees selected for planting are all well-adapted to Canberra’s climate and are to compliment surrounding landscapes.

Watering and pruning regimes will be recorded and assessed using spatial technology to help improve care for the trees.

People are advised to report any vandalism or theft of trees to Canberra Connect on 13 22 81.
