New Civic Library turns five!

CIVIC Library, in its new location in Civic Square, turns five today.

The new Civic Library officially opened on December 8, 2006, and since then has attracted 7907 new members and 807,000 visitors.

Libraries ACT director Vanessa Little said the location has provided opportunities to work more closely with other organisations within Civic Square, including the Canberra Theatre Centre, Canberra Museum and Gallery, and the Theo Notaras Multicultural Centre.

“The library has an ultra-modern look, and was designed to attract both visitors to the city, and residents with varying needs. It’s also the venue for book discussion groups, and in 2012 will host two of Libraries ACT’s Read Around Canberra book groups,” she said.

“Civic Library has long been committed to supporting multicultural communities, and the collections have been developed to support this with a range of community language resources. It also hosts several popular English conversation classes, and an International English Language Testing System class.”
