Northside robbers nabbed

A 37-year-old man and a 26 year-old woman from Ngunnawal were arrested for several aggravated robberies last night.

Police responded to the first robbery at about 7.06pm at the Higgins Foodworks. A man entered the store and threatened staff with a knife, demanding money.

Police said staff complied with his demands and the offender left the store in a black Toyota Kluger 4WD. The description of the offender provided by witnesses was similar to that from previous incidents.

At about 8pm, Gunghalin police spotted the black Toyota Kluger 4WD which was suspected to be stolen. They found in the rear of the car was a cash tray believed to have been stolen during the robbery at Higgins Foodworks.

ACT Policing’s canine unit led police to a nearby house where they found items relating to several aggravated robberies.

Following the search, a man and woman were arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House.

The man has been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery in relation to KFC Hawker, Coles/Shell Express Hawker and Foodworks Higgins and ride in stolen motor vehicle.

The woman has been charged with one count of aggravated burglary.

Both offenders will face the ACT Magistrates Court today. They may be charged with further robbery offences.
