AS HE watched his business erupt in flames Johnathan Efkarpidis was already thinking of the future for the NewActon Pavillion.

The heritage-listed NewActon Pavillion, was severely damaged yesterday at around 4.30pm, after a fire is believed to have started in a kitchen.

Mr Efkarpidis, a director of the Molonglo Group, said he did not want to speculate the cause of the fire and had already begun thinking of how to rebuild the Pavillion last night.

“All our insurances are intact,” he said.

“Our team flew down from Melbourne and are on the ground, finding out where we need to go from here.”

He said he couldn’t put a price on how much it would cost to rebuild.

Parlour Wine Room, Flint Restaurant and the Molonglo Group offices were all lost in the fire, however the Diamant Hotel was relatively unafffected.

He said it could take from six to 12 months to rebuild and they planned to rebuild the building as it was.

“It has been our love for a long time,” he said.

Workers and residents have already moved back into the surrounding buildings and construction of the Nishi precinct has continued as usual.

And Diamant Hotel guests are now allowed to collect their personal items from their rooms. He said the most important thing was no one was hurt.
