Preschoolers to learn more on road safety

By Nicole Katipunan

PRESCHOOLS will receive more education on road safety through Communities@Work thanks to a grant of $5,000 from NRMA insurance.

The grant will give Communities@Work, a Tuggeranong-based not-for-profit group,  the chance to be part of the “Smart Start Road Safety” project, an engaging road safety education program aimed at preschool-aged children.

“Initiatives such as this one enhance the safety, confidence and independence of people in the local community and the NRMA is proud to be able to help in a positive and meaningful way,” NRMA Director, Alan Evans said.

“Road Safety is a key issue for preschool children who are beginning to walk to preschool, ride bicycles and be more physically independent of their parents in public spaces.

“It’s all about accident prevention and education; the $,5000 grant will allow Communities@Work to create and share preschool road safety resources with preschools throughout the ACT.”

This year the NRMA has awarded $100,000 in grants for 54 new road safety programs that address a range of road safety issues including schools, pedestrian, bike, bus and car safety for children, and scooter safety for mobility-impaired or older users.
