Raiders soldier on

THE Raiders side will be missing Joel Thompson coming into their last game of the season and the final game for skipper Alan Tongue at ANZ Stadium against the Bulldogs.

Thompson will miss one match after he took an early guilty plea for last weekend’s high-tackle charge on Panther Travis Burns.

The absence of Thompson will see Danny Galea will step into the right centre position and Josh Papalii back in the starting line-up.

Raiders Coach David Furner said the loss of Thompson was disappointing for the team, however he believed Galea would fill the vacant centre spot comfortably this weekend.

“We’ll miss Joel’s aggression and his hard-line running and he’s been in great form for us for the back end of the season, so it’s a shame he’ll miss out,” Furner said.

“Danny Galea has played centre this year for us and is also aggressive in defence so we know he’s capable of playing there this weekend.”

Furner said the team wouldn’t focus too much on the fact that it’s Alan Tongue’s last match of the year.

“Alan is a professional and after a big send off last weekend he’s keen to go out there and simply finish his career off with a win,” Furner said.

“At this stage he will start the game after a man of the match performance last week and I know the team wants to get  him a win in his final game.”
