Remembering deceased online

ACCESS to the online memorial heavenaddress.com is now available in Canberra through Tobin Brothers Funerals locations in Kingston and Belconnen.

Christine Walters, area manager for Tobin Brothers, says heavenaddress.com is an online memorial community based on the principles of honouring, respecting and celebrating the deceased, regardless of time, distance or nationality.

It does not contain any advertising and participants are not charged for activities such as lighting a virtual candle.

“The heavenaddress site embodies dignity and respect for families,” she says.

“It also provides family members and friends overseas, who may not be able to visit a loved one’s physical memorial, with a sense of involvement in the process.”

Memorial page profiles can be set as public, friends only or private. Once a memorial page is created, family members and friends can share their memories, prayers, photos, music and videos, and celebrate the life of the loved one they have lost, says Christine.

Unlike a newspaper notice, online memorial pages are not static. Many people continue to visit their loved one’s profile on a regular basis, adding messages and lighting candles on birthdays, anniversaries or other special dates.

“Another reason for choosing heavenaddress was the fact that the site’s services are available worldwide and curators’ personalised addresses can be shown in multi-language forms including Chinese, Japanese, German, Arabic and Spanish. Given Canberra’s multicultural population, I’m certain this will be a popular option,” says Christine.
