• “AFRODITI Sings” is a “cabaret of love” inspired by the Greek goddess of love, presented by Canberra mezzo-soprano Angela Giblin and pianist Margaret Legge-Wilkinson. They’ll run the gamut of passionate arias, wild flamenco songs, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington,  Stephen Sondheim and Edith Piaf. At Teatro Vivaldi, October 29 and November 3. • WESLEY Music Centre has a big week looming, with its annual Wesley Music Scholars’ Spring Concert on October 23 at 3pm when 12 elite scholars will perform a works for voice, strings, oboe, guitar and organ. Then, on October 26, soprano Alexandra Dalman and pianist Kylie Loveland will perform Ravel, Puccini and Mozart and Granados in the “Lunchtime Live” series from 12.40pm to 1.20pm. Seats for both concerts at the door.

AMERICAN comedian-film-maker John Waters (no, not our John Waters) will present his one-man show, “This Filthy World”, at the Canberra Theatre on October 25. Immediately before that, the man called the “Pope of Trash” will be staging “Double Features from Hell”, a festival of feel-bad movies, at Sydney Opera House.

• IN 2012, Canberra Youth Music will add to its six existing ensembles the new Canberra Youth Jazz Orchestra and Canberra Youth Chamber Orchestra. Auditions for all are on October 29-30, November 5-6 and November 12-13. Inquiries and bookings to 6247 4714.

• NIDA has just finished staging acting courses for young people and adults at Daramalan College in the past week. • IN “Connected” at M16 Artspace, 21 Blaxland Crescent, Griffith, noon-5pm, Wednesdays to Sundays, photographer Geoffrey Dunn’s camera captures the prints and drawings of Nicci Haynes.

• AT Watson Arts Centre, Aspinall Street, Watson, Thursday to Sunday, 10am-4pm, the nine-year-old Marsden Arts Group explores the notion of refuge in its 2011 spring exhibition “Refugia”.

• THE Contemporary Art Space, Manuka, exhibits the limited-edition, hand-bound picture book, “Autumn Leaves”, alongside original graphite and watercolour illustrations by Annika Romeyn, winner of the 2011 Belconnen Gallery EASS prize.
