Security officers to rally

MORE than 50 security officers, supporters will rally at the Customs Building in Civic at noon on Monday protesting at pay rates and to make the point, will be handing out  pay packets with peanuts in them.

The group will present a blown-up pay packet to the procurement officer of Customs, asking the officer’s support to get SNP, the company that employs the security officers all over Canberra, including in the Custom’s building, to take a stand for secure buildings in the ACT.

“Security officers all over Canberra are taking a stand for safe buildings and good jobs in the ACT,” Lyndal Ryan, ACT secretary of the security officer’s union United Voice, said.

“These officers work hard to ensure that everyone in Canberra is safe, but they’re only making peanuts at less than $17 an hour. They can’t even afford to make ends meet. We’re taking a stand for a safe Canberra by ensuring that SNP offers good jobs with liveable wages to their security officers.”
