September: Spring arrives with the promise of the Queen

SPRING is at the door, with Canberra’s Tina Sinara making the State finals of the Miss Pin Up Australian competition, and cats summoned for “In the Swing of Spring” cat show.

Mariska Thynne launches an online fashion boutique called The Professor’s Daughter, with the spring collection to provide “enviable style for exceptional women”.

One of our exceptional women, Dr. Robyn Walker, wins the 2011 Telstra ACT Business Woman of the year. As the navy’s highest ranking female officer, Dr. Walker is recognised for her service and widespread reforms to improve the health of the forces.

Another exceptional woman is on her way. There are whispers of the Queen visiting Canberra on her trip to Australia next month.

Again, Canberra proves to be the most affordable place to live in Australia. While the real estate peak body urges people to buy, happy renters such as Sean Patterson prefer to rent for a better standard of living.

For Canberra’s homeless young people, Peter Schwarz offers guidance, support or just a shoulder to cry on. Having been a youth work for 15 years, Peter is always available and never judgmental.

A concert will be dedicated to the Efkarpidis family, whose properties were burnt down earlier this year. Brazilian star Alda Rezende joins efforts with local Canberra art groups to support the family, for their tireless sponsorship of arts activities in Canberra.

A group of Canberra doctors is extending its support to indigenous people in remote communities in NT. Since 2007, the John James Memorial Foundation has been sending volunteer doctors to Katherine, making a difference to the health of local people.
