Storm damages hospital and theatre

THE Canberra Hospital and the Canberra Theatre Centre were among the 151 calls for help recieved by the ACT SES after yesterday’s severe storm.

SES, ACT Fire and Rescue, and  ACT Rural Fire Service volunteers worked through the night, finishing at 2am. A minor leak in the roof of the Canberra Theatre Centre saw minor flooding to the foyer. The Canberra Hospital suffered minor flooding which resulted in the evacuation of some staff and patients.

“Canberra Hospital and Health Services has had to relocate some patients and staff affected by minor flooding, all patients are being cared for as normal and the hospital is operating normally,” Health Directorate director-general Dr Peggy Brown said.

All services will be operating as normal on Monday, with patients expected to relocate back to affected areas within the next two days.

ACT SES volunteers began work today at 7am to complete six outstanding jobs.

To request assistance contact ACT SES on 132 500.
