Street protest by cleaners

MORE than 40 cleaners, community members and members of United Voice, the cleaners’ union, will protest outside of the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations in Marcus Clarke Street at midday tomorrow.

Lyndal Ryan, ACT branch secretary  says the group will be chanting and handing out ear plugs to cafe patrons and public servants, reminding the Federal Government that they will continue their protests until the Government keeps its word to only hire responsible cleaning companies.

“They haven’t done anything to help cleaners who are struggling just to get by. Cleaners are standing up to show the Government that something needs to change, ” she says.

“On International Cleaners’ Day, cleaners presented the Federal Government the ACT Golden Toilet Brush, an award given to the client or contractor who has shown the most disregard for hardworking families and cleaners.”
