ERINDALE College students Andria Bencich and Nathan Ballard have taken home a gold medal from the International Secondary Schools Culinary Challenge.

The team, who won a gold medal at the ACT heats in July, were up against 10 international teams from NZ, New Caledonia, Taiwan, China, Japan, Tahiti and Australia.

The students had an hour to prepare four serves of their dish of poached fillet of beef, onion puree, sauté spaetzle, vegetable paysanne with a pumpkin and cashew nut pie and jus lie.

Judged by five of the world’s top chefs and to International Live Cookery Competition standards, the team received a gold medal for their dish and kitchen work.

Teacher Meg Lewis said she was extremely proud of her students and thinks they represented Australia and Canberra schools to an exceptional standard.

She said she hopes more students from Canberra can be involved in the ACT heats next year.
