Teen arrested for animal cruelty

A 16-year-old boy was arrested for animal cruelty this morning in Scullin for allegedly throwing a cat from a second storey balcony and tying its front paws together using plastic cable ties.

About 12.30am police were called to a Scullin apartment complex, after receiving a report of excessive noise. They were called back to the apartment complex and saw a youth carrying a cat with its paws bound together.

Police removed the cable ties and after noticing the cat could not use its hind legs. They took the cat to the Animal Emergency Centre where a vet said the cat suffered from pelvis fractures and nerve damage.

The young person was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House where he was later bailed. He will be summonsed to attend the ACT Childrens Court at a later date, when he will be charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal causing serious injury.

Anyone with information about this incident, are urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or report via the website at www.act.crimestoppers.com.au.
