Thousands visit Gungahlin library

SIX months in and the Gungahlin Public Library, the biggest in the ACT, has attracted 3443 new members and 214,550 visitors.

“The new Gungahlin Library has been really well received by the community with 241,233 items borrowed and 6,787 free internet hours logged since it opened in May this year,” Chief Minister Katy Gallagher said.

“It is now the largest public library in the ACT, meeting the needs of the area’s growing population. Members have access to over 70,000 books, magazines and DVDs, free wireless and internet access.”

The Library also includes the Cafe Ink, a proactive, environmentally friendly cafe that uses recyclable cups and fair trade organic coffee.

It has become a popular meeting place for social groups including mother’s groups and book clubs as well as kids’ Story Time and, Giggle and Wiggle.

“Gungahlin Library has been set up with several special zones. It has a children’s zone, which incorporates a state of the art interactive floor, a youth zone, quiet area, courtyard, and six rooms for community hire,” Ms Gallagher said.

The library is located near the Gungahlin Marketplace and is co-located with the new secondary college and the Canberra Institute of Technology Gungahlin Flexible Learning Centre.
