Trees with the sound of…

Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter.

IT mightn’t quite be a forest yet, but the National Arboretum has ambitions in that direction.

Now the Village Building Company plans to transform the natural amphitheatre just below the Visitors Centre complex into an outdoor concert-hall with sensational views to the lake, city and Yarralumla.

In the inaugural “Voices in the Forest” concert, Canberra luminaries such as centenary creative director Robyn Archer, Louise Page, Peter J Casey and a 200-voice children’s choir have every chance of upstaging the visiting stars, Swedish mezzo-soprano Anne Sofie von Otter and Opera Australia tenor Henry Choo.

The concert is at the Arboretum, 4pm-7.30pm, gates open at 2pm, Saturday, November 12. Wear tough shoes. Bookings to 6275 2700.
