Wonderful tales of the jungle

[box] CHILDREN’S THEATRE
“The Jungle Book”
Adapted and directed by B J Anyos for Child Players ACT’s Child Play children’s theatre group, at the Belconnen Theatre until July 23. [/box]

I HAVEN’T enjoyed myself so much in ages attending a play performed by young people.

By sheer coincidence I recently re-read all of Rudyard Kipling jungle tales, so was right up on Mowgli the man-cub and his forest mates.

Canberra writer and director B J Anyos successfully steers right away from the Disney travesty, keeping close to the original and showing Mowgli caught between the laws of man and of animals.

“The Jungle Book” is as much an educational process for the performers as shown the audience, though the costumes are simply magnificent.

Anyos divides the kids up into two casts (Pride and Power) and they play wolves, monkeys, bear, panther, tiger and nasty jackal with enormous relish.

Bookings to 6257 1950.
