Zed makes his move!

CANBERRA Liberals announced today that leader Zed Seselja will run for a seat in Brindabella at next year’s election with Steve Doszpot making a move to Ginninderra.

Seselja gained the majority of Molonglo votes (16,739) in the 2008 election over Chief Minister Katy Gallagher (13931). He also gained more votes than then-Chief Minister and member for Ginninderra, Jon Stanhope (13,461).

Seselja, who grew up in the Tuggeranong Valley and lives in Macarthur, will be at home in the Brindabella electorate.

“It’s a great feeling to know I will be representing the people and communities where I live, where I grew up, and where I am now raising my own children,” Seselja said.

“I look forward to seeking pre-selection to represent the community that I was born in, that I was raised in, and in which I now raise my own family.”

Seselja said the Canberra Liberals have been shaping their policy, direction and vision as locally focussed.

“This move is a natural fit with that vision,” he said.

Member for Brindabella, Doszpot will be moving from Calwell to the inner south.

Seselja said Doszpot had found his current home a little large for an “empty nester” and was returning to the inner south, where he lived for almost 20 years.

Earlier this year, the Augmented Electoral Commission proposed Ginninderra be made a seven-member electorate by incorporating Belconnen, Gungahlin and Hall and the central suburbs of Lyneham, O’Connor and Turner.

Molonglo would then be made a five-member electorate, from seven seats.
