OPPOSITION Leader Zed Seselja has joined Chief Minister Katy Gallagher in rejecting a toll for the Majura Parkway, a recommendation of Infrastructure Australia.
“We do not support Infrastructure Australia’s call to put a tolls Canberra’s roads,” he says.
“Tolls usually are based on major roads in major cities such as Sydney and Melbourne. Canberrans already pay a great deal of taxes and charges, including a petrol excise and high registration costs, they should not be made to pay a road toll on top of this.
“The Majura Parkway is important infrastructure, but it should not come at the expense of ACT taxpayers through a toll, when they will already be paying for half the project through ACT government funding.
“The Majura Parkway is important infrastructure and the Commonwealth should be contributing to this project. These concerns also highlight the real need for the government to support reforms like the Canberra Liberal’s Infrastructure Canberra Bill.”
