20-year-old in high-speed chase

A 20-year-old O’Malley man has been arrested after he led police on a high-speed pursuit in Waramanga early this morning.

Police say they noticed a car speeding along Namatjira Drive at around 2.40am but the driver failed to pull over on command, initiating a pursuit reaching speeds of 120km/h in a 60km/h zone.

Police chased the car along Namatjira Drive, Badimara Street and Hindmarsh Drive before the driver stopped near St John Vianney’s Primary School.

Police say the pursuit lasted less than four minutes.

The 20-year-old driver was charged with a number of traffic offences and has been released from the ACT Watch House on bail to appear in the ACT Magistrates Court at a later date.
