A 24-year-old Ngunnawal man has been arrested after a high-speed vehicle pursuit in Belconnen this morning.
Around 5.45am, police were conducting patrols in the city area when they saw a green Daewoo Espero pull into a nearby car park.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle but it failed to stop, initiating a pursuit lasting for a total of 21 minutes and the maximum speed reached by the driver was 140km/h in a 90km/h zone.
The pursuit continued towards the GDE and into Belconnen before stop sticks deployed on Copeland Drive caused the car’s tyres to deflate and a wheel came off.
The driver left the vehicle and ran through a number of backyards before he was arrested by police.
The 24-year-old was charged with a number of traffic offences and will appear in the ACT Magistrates Court later today.
