Brumbies to move to UC

THE ACT Brumbies are moving their training base and headquarters to a new Sports Hub at the University of Canberra (UC).

The university is currently the major naming rights sponsor for the Super Rugby franchise.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Stephen Parker says the Sports Hub will provide increased opportunities for UC staff and students to work with elite athletes and community sporting organisations, as well as improved facilities for use in the University’s sports and other programs.

The Sports Hub will include training facilities and administration offices for the Brumbies, as well as a state of the art gymnasium and consulting rooms for use by the university community.

Parker says the university is seeking participation of other elite and community-based sporting organisations in joining the development.

The design and construction of the first phase of the Sports Hub is expected to cost $15 million, with the University and the Brumbies each contributing $5 million.

ACT Labor has also committed to invest $5 million.

Brumbies Chief Executive Andrew Fagan and former Brumbies and Wallabies captain George Gregan are both UC graduates, and prop Ben Alexander is a current student.
