CD launch celebrates ‘beautiful’ and ‘happy’ music

IN some Aboriginal languages, the word “Merindah” means “beautiful” or “happy,” and that’s exactly what guitarist Minh Le Hoang and flautist Teresa Rabe had in mind when, back in 2006, they named their performance duo “Duo Merindah.”

On Friday night the two musicians are planning their debut self-titled CD at Wesley Music Centre that promises to be beautiful and happy, with a mixed modern and classical report including works by Schubert, Vivaldi, Faure, Ravel, Bogdanovic and Houghton

Both members of Merindah are graduates of the ANU School of Music, Rabe with a bachelor of music with distinction, Minh with a bachelor of music, first class honours and a masters of music.

A member of Australia’s unique guitar quartet, Guitar Trek, Minh has toured throughout Europe, toured for Musica Viva and appeared at major festivals including the Sydney Festival, Canberra International Chamber Music Festival, Brunswick Music Festival, Port Fairy Classical Music Festival, Frankston, Darwin, and NZ International Guitar Festivals.

Rabe has toured with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and played with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra.

Duo Merindah CD Launch, at Wesley Music Centre, 7.30pm, Friday, October 19. CDs are available at www.duomerindah.com and on iTunes.
