Cheap bus fares to travel over the border

A THREE month trial of cheaper transport between the ACT and Queanbeyan will begin on Monday.

As part of the trial, Queanbeyan residents can acess Deane’s Transit Group off-peak services into the ACT for a lower fare – from $7.20 down to $6 and within the ACT on selected Deane’s services for $4.50 or $2.5o for pensioners.

The cross border public transport trial was first proposed as part of the Eastern Regional Transport Taskforce, following the signing of the ACT-NSW Memorandum of Understanding on Regional Collaboration by the Chief Minister Katy Gallagher and NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell following a meeting on December 2.

“The trial follows an agreement between Queanbeyan City Council, the ACT Government, NSW Government and Deane’s Transit Group,” Queanbeyan mayor Cr Overall said.

“Council and the ACT Government have been working together for a number of years on cross-border issues, especially transport. Transport linkages between the two cities have been of concern during these meetings and I am pleased to see this trial commence and encourage Queanbeyan residents to take advantage of the reduced fares.”

The trial will run for three months, after which will be evaluated and assist in future developments in cross-border public transport options
