Deputy vice-chancellor named for UC

PROF Nick Klomp has been appointed UC’s deputy vice-chancellor of Education; starting July.

Prof Klomp, who is currently Dean of the Faculty of Science at Charles Sturt University, says he’s delighted to join the team at UC.

“The tertiary education sector is currently going though rapid, but exciting and important changes. The University of Canberra is at the forefront of this, it’s innovative and going from strength to strength,” Prof Klomp said.

“I would like to concentrate on enhancing the student experience at the University of Canberra, to ensure we provide great blended learning opportunities, seamless learning and teaching technologies, work integrated learning, and student global mobility.”

Prof Klomp  is a three-time nominee for the Eureka Prize for the Promotion of Science and has won the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Teaching Excellence at CSU.

He is recognised internationally for research in applied ecology and environmental science, as well as for work in the promotion of science as an ABC Science Correspondent.

Prof Klomp has a Bachelor of Applied Science degree from Curtin University, first class honours in Science from Murdoch University and a PhD in ecology from Glasgow University.

University of Canberra vice-chancellor Prof Stephen Parker said: “I look forward to working with Prof Klomp to shape and support the University’s teaching and learning.

“With the introduction of demand driven funding, it is vital that we focus on providing the best possible student experience. Prof Klomp will provide great leadership in this role.”
