IN Canberra Youth Theatre’s new production “Insomniac Attack”, the Junior Ensemble players are let loose with their technological prowess and invite others – that’s you and me – to explore their theatrical world.
Often referred to as “digital natives”, we are told, today’s children are operating more competently in a high-tech world than their “digital immigrant” parents and teachers.
It’s a questionable premise, but one that director/animateur Cathy Petöcz and designer Imogen Keen have taken up with relish.
Billed as “an original electro-theatre piece devised by the actors, exploring night-time horrors and everyday fears”. It is, says Petöcz, “about making digital puppets, using live cameras and projections, and the tiny screens on iPods, iPads and hand-held gaming devices, then combining that with the live performer.”
You’ll just have to see it to get the idea.
“Insomniac Attack,” C Block Theatre, Gorman House Arts Centre, 1pm, July 18 – 21 and 6:30pm, July 20 – 21. Bookings to online at www.cytc.net/productions
