Rep ready for centenary with early season announcements

CANBERRA Rep’s 2013 season announcements, made to clinking of glasses and general approval, revealed that from 2014, (but not just yet) Canberra’s most enduring theatre company will stage 7 shows a year.

Duncan Ley to direct Dylan Thomas’s “Under Milk Wood”
The 2013 season opens with the true story, “Calendar Girls” by Tim Firth, with director Catherine Hill returning to direct the play in which two friends devise an exotic way to raise money for leukaemia research.

Duncan Ley, a favourite Rep director and actor,  returns to direct Dylan Thomas’s  “Under Milk Wood,” to be followed by their annual variety show, now with a centenary flavour, “Jazz Garters: 4, A Century of Entertainment,” to be directed by Cate Clelland.

Another favourite director, Aarne Neeme, will return to stage “Don Parties On”—you’ve guessed it, by David Williamson.

director Jarrad West strengthens  his already formidable credentials in directing shows for young audiences by staging Richard Tulloch’s “The Book of Everything,” life as viewed by Thomas, a nine-year old boy who sees things hidden from the rest of us.

Rep’s traditional end-of-year farce, “Fox on the Fairway,” directed by Liz Bradley will finish off the year.

And, in an unusual move, the first of seven shows  for 2014 was announced too. Director  Jordan Best, will direct that ol’ perennial favourite “Steel Magnolias” by Robert Harling, with six strong roles for women who can do the Southern drawl.

Rep Season 2013, Canberra Repertory Society, Theatre 3,3 Repertory Lane, (off Ellery Cres), for subscription packages phone 6257 1950.
